VISION STATEMENT

To be an International leader in Community Service Learning, in providing rigorous and reflective academic experiences for students, excellent resources and recognition for faculty and meaningful service to the community.

INVESTING IN THE PEOPLE

Goal 1-Access and Diversity Utilize Community Service Learning as pedagogy
             to recruit retain, and graduate civically and academically engaged
             students.

Benchmark - Increase the number of students enrolled in Community Service Learning course by (%) per year for the next five years.

Objective 1.1 Utilize Community Service Learning to enhance recruitment

Strategies:
Explore Community Service Learning collaborations with the community and outreach programs

Objective 1.2- Create opportunities to integrate civic and academic responsibilities through Community Service Learning.

Strategies:

  • Publicize Community Service Learning at (name of school)
  • Present philosophy of Community Service Learning to student and faculty groups
  • Develop workshops for advisors and parent volunteers
  • Include definition and explanation of Community Service Learning in course catalogue
  • Provide link to Community Service Learning website on schools website

Goal 2-Staffing and Infrastructure
Maintain and develop a quality work force and environment for Community Service Learning.

Benchmark
Maintain an appropriate administrative unit for Service Learning

Objective 2.1 Maintain appropriate administrative unit for Service Learning
Strategies:

  • Provide opportunities for professional growth and development to maintain Service Learning
  • Maintain and develop the Community Service Learning library
  • Maintain adequate staffing for Service Learning
  • Retain adequate office space for personnel, Community Service Learning materials and resources

ENRICH THE EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Goal 3- Teaching and Learning
Provide instruction in Community Service Learning in a wide array of disciplines and department programs.

Benchmarks:

     Increase the number of faculty teaching and including Community Service
     learning content
     Increase the number of Community Service Learning Activity within the
     curriculum  
                                               
Objective 3.1 Attract additional faculty to teach Community Service Learning 

Strategies:

  • Present Community Service Learning workshops in a variety of academic environments
  • Promote Community Service Learning at Divisional and departmental levels
  • Develop Community Service Learning workshops for new faculty orientation
  • Include Community Service Learning information in new faculty orientation materials      

Objective 3.2 Support faculty teaching Community Service Learning courses

Strategies:  
       

  • Provide information about the Community Service Learning Faculty Fellow program
  • Recognize exceptional faculty teaching Community Service Learning courses
  • Institutionalize course load credit for developing and teaching Community Service Learning courses through faculty workload policy
  • Develop appropriate assessment models for evaluating Community Service Learning Project
  • Develop workshops on Service Learning
  • Create and publish a Community Service Learning newsletter   
Goal 4-Graduate and Professional Education:
Increase graduate and professional education opportunities in Community Service Learning.

Benchmarks:
Increase the number of faculty teaching Community Service Learning content        

Objective 4.1 Attract additional faculty to teach Community Service Learning courses

Strategies:
  • Present Community Service Learning workshops in a variety of academic environments

Goal 5: Engagement
Develop a Community Service Learning program that contributes to student learning and benefits the local and surrounding community and people.

Objective 5.1 Showcase faculty research on Service Learning

Strategies:

  • Continue to implement campus events to display faculty achievements in Service Learning
  • Develop website links to highlight Community Service Learning
  • Provide consultation for faculty in regards to the implementation and coordination of Community Service Learning program     
            
 Objective 5.2 Showcase Community Service Learning Projects

Strategies:

  • Encourage media coverage of Community Service Learning projects
  • Develop website links to highlight the community and national partnerships in Community Service Learning

    Goal 6- Partnerships: Build strategic Community Service Learning partnerships with community, industry, and schools

    Benchmarks:
    ·         Increase number of community partnerships
    ·         Continue to create and maintain affiliations with regional and national Community Organizations
    ·          
    Objective 6.1: Create and maintain partnerships with local, region and international schools and  higher education institutions

    Strategies:
    Develop partnerships with key individuals in local and regional school districts as well as other higher education institutions 
    Identify  needs that can be met through Community Service Learning program
    Include Community Service Learning Advisory Council

    Objective 6.2: Create partnerships with university, community, state, national, non-profit and human interest agencies.

    Strategies:
    Identify community needs that can be met through Community Service Learning courses and projects
    Explore possible collaborations with national agencies
    Explore possible collaborations within the local community
